Positions of Particular Interest to RCA Members

Position: Two, two-year term positions in Rhetoric and Communication, Open rank

Subject to administrative approval, the Communication Arts and Sciences Department of Calvin College is looking for two two-year term faculty members in Rhetoric and Communication starting August, 2010. Open rank. Successful candidates will be able to teach from the following courses: Oral Rhetoric, Communication and Culture, Visual Rhetoric, Advanced Oral Rhetoric, Argumentation and Advocacy, Theory and Communication, Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Communication and Gender, Persuasion and Propaganda, American Politics and Mass Media, and Rhetorical Criticism.

Calvin is on a two-semester academic calendar, with a January interim term. The standard teaching load is 21-22 semester hours annually. Faculty members typically teach three courses during the fall and spring semesters, and one course during the January interim term. With a faculty of 20, we are large enough so that teaching assignments usually cover a reasonable range of courses.

We look for people who have a sense of humor, who relish the opportunity to teach at a strong Christian liberal arts college that encourages and supports scholarly and creative enterprise, and are good enough to make a strong department even better.

Calvin expects all faculty members to affirm and promote its Reformed (Calvinistic) Christian perspective. We particularly invite applications from those who will strengthen us by increasing the ethnic range of our department.

For further information about Calvin College and the Communication Arts and Sciences department, go to http://www.calvin.edu/admin/provost/facdocs/fac-requirements.htm and http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/

Candidates should hold an M.A. or Ph.D. in an appropriate field. Persons who are ABD or hold a Master's degree will be considered.

Review of applications begins November 16, 2009 and continues until the position is filled. Applicants must submit an application letter, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and evidence of excellent teaching.
