Mrs. Verónica Abad, Constitutional Vice President of the Republic; Mr. Henry Kronfle, President of the National Assembly; His Excellency Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia; His Excellency Geraldo José Rodrigues, Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil; His Excellency Renato Florentino, Vice President of the Republic of Honduras; Foreign Ministers; Ministers and Heads of Delegation; Representatives of State functions and control agencies; Vice Presidents of the National Assembly; Major General Nelson Proaño, Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces; Commanders General of the Land, Naval and Air Forces and Commander General of the National Police; members of the honorable diplomatic corps and international organizations accredited to the government of the Republic of Ecuador; members of the Assembly; dear Lavinia [Valbonesi, First Lady of the Nation], children, family and friends who are with me at this moment; all invited guests:

Ecuador has gone through very difficult times, economic challenges, security and death, real and political. Few candidates were willing to take the risk of this election.

For the good of Ecuador, and because I have a renewed and young vision, I ran for the presidency without hesitation. Few thought I had a chance.

The result of this election leads us to some important reflections: that those who see politics as merely a reality of extremism and retribution will not have popular support.

I am a free and pragmatic man who in empathy seeks to improve the lives of Ecuadorians, as do all the young -- young people who placed their hope in me.

I believe in the vitality of youth, and many will find it hard to pigeonhole me in old political or ideological paradigms.

I believe in a State whose first objective is to reduce violence and make progress a habit.

Beyond all the challenges we have, I believe in Ecuador, in change and in its future. It is difficult for the old political schemes to understand this electoral success.

I am grateful that many of you, those who are in the Assembly, have also joined this trend. Both elections, those of your dignities and ours, can only be explained by a need for change. This change that the country requires clearly has a sense of urgency to which many of us young people must respond boldly.

My family and I have experienced political persecution over time by different governments and, despite not forgetting the bad times we have experienced, I feel the obligation to put my country first and break this cycle of revenge.

As I said throughout the campaign, I am not anti-anything; I am pro-Ecuador. For many, this is difficult to understand; and simply, the reality of these results imposes itself. We cannot continue repeating the policies of the past, hoping to have a different result. That is why citizens voted for the new Ecuador.

I grew up with my mother's social service and my father's political struggle. I traveled around Ecuador many times from the time I was a child -- and from his hands.

Through effort and discipline I have achieved academic, professional, and political success, never forgetting a love for my country and the responsibility to improve it for future generations.

I have put my heart into this campaign, as with everything I have done in my life, and I will do the same being your president.

Many believe that youth is synonymous with naivety. For me, it is synonymous with strength, strength to overcome the challenges that are imposed on us -- because that is what Ecuador requires.

There is one thing I am very clear about and that is in order to fight violence, we must attack unemployment. The country needs employment and to generate it we will send urgent reforms to the Assembly, which must be treated responsibly, thinking first of the country.

In the first cabinet session, I asked the nominated ministers to clearly establish their action plan in each of their State portfolios, with clear and measurable goals.

For many, I am of a different generation. If there is something different about me, it is that I like to plan, set goals, and measure everything in order to see progress.

To all the friendly nations present here, thank you for your patience in accompanying us at this particular moment in our history. We extend a friendly hand unconditionally, but we will ask for your support because many of our struggles are the struggles of all.

I have always been a person of few words, but I have always been a young man of action, as are the majority of Ecuadorians, who only ask for an opportunity, the same opportunity that I had, which you gave me.

Those who seek to trap me in old schemes will fail. I am a free man, free of prejudices and, for many, politically different. But that is Ecuador: young, free, diverse, and enterprising.

Few cabinets in history have been as diverse as this one. We have never had the participation of so many women or young people. It is this rich mix that represents all of Ecuador and is what the country needs to grow, an Ecuador that includes everyone.

I ask for your support. I ask you to join our efforts. The "anti" has a ceiling; the "pro" is infinite. Let us leave the old political schemes behind and concentrate on solving the great problems that afflict Ecuador.

I have always been an optimist. I have always believed in Ecuador. And together, we will break away from rigid schemes to adapt and progress.

I want to give special thanks to my wife Lavinia, my mother [Annabella Azín] and my children. They do not yet realize the magnitude of my gratitude for the sacrifices they will have to make for this struggle for the rest of their lives.

But beyond the bad moments, I only ask them to remember that these sacrifices are few compared to the sacrifices that most Ecuadorian families have to make every day in a country with violence, misery, and marginalization. And may that sacrifice be the greatest example of your lives.

Thank you very much to all those who believed in me from day one and also to those who did not, but were open enough for me to represent them. My respect and consideration to each and every one of them.

I invite all of you to work together to put an end to the common enemy: violence and misery.

Success has not yet have arrived here, but on the day that it is our turn to march, to have the respect and affection of the majority of Ecuadorians -- that success will only happen if we unite.

The task is hard and difficult and the days are few.

Let's get to work.

El Ecuador ha pasado por tiempos muy difíciles, retos económicos, de seguridad y la muerte, la real y la política. Pocos candidatos estaban dispuestos a tomar el riesgo de esta elección.

Por bien del Ecuador y porque tengo una visión renovada y joven me lancé a la presidencia sin dudarlo. Pocos pensaban que tenía posibilidades.

El resultado de esta elección nos lleva a algunas reflexiones importantes: que aquellos que ven la política como una realidad de extremos y revanchas no tendrán el respaldo popular.

Soy un hombre libre y pragmático que busca con empatía mejorar la vida de los ecuatorianos, como son todos aquellos jóvenes que depositaron su esperanza en mí.

Creo en la fuerza de la juventud y a muchos les costará encasillarme en viejos paradigmas políticos o ideológicos.

Creo en un Estado que tiene como primer objetivo reducir la violencia y volver del progreso una costumbre.

Más allá de todos los retos que tenemos creo en el Ecuador, en el cambio y en su futuro. Para los viejos esquemas políticos les es difícil entender este éxito electoral.

Agradezco que muchos de ustedes, los que se encuentran en la Asamblea, también se han sumado a esta corriente. Ambas elecciones, las de sus dignidades y las nuestras, solo se pueden explicar por una necesidad de cambio.

Este cambio que el país requiere tiene claramente un sentido de urgencia a la que muchos jóvene -- jóvenes tenemos que responder con audacia.
Mi familia y yo hemos experimentado persecuciones políticas a lo largo del tiempo por diferentes gobiernos y, a pesar de no olvidar los malos ratos vividos, siento la obligación de poner a mi país primero y romper este ciclo de revanchas.

Como lo dije durante toda la campaña no soy un anti-nada; soy un pro Ecuador. Para muchos esto es difícil entender y simplemente la realidad de estos resultados se impone. No podemos seguir repitiendo las políticas del pasado, esperando tener un resultado distinto, por eso los ciudadanos votaron por el nuevo Ecuador.

Crecí junto al servicio social de mi madre y la lucha política de mi padre. Recorrí el Ecuador entero muchas veces desde niño y de sus manos.
A base de esfuerzo y disciplina he logrado éxito académico, profesional y político, nunca olvidando el amor por mi país y la responsabilidad de mejorarlo para las futuras generaciones.

Le he puesto el corazón a esta campaña y a todo lo que he hecho en mi vida, lo mismo haré siendo su presidente.

Muchos creen que la juventud es sinónimo de ingenuidad, para mí es sinónimo de fuerza. Fuerza para vencer los retos que se nos imponen porque eso es lo que el Ecuador necesita.

Hay algo que tengo muy claro y es que para combatir la violencia hay que atacar la desocupación. El país necesita empleo y para generarlo enviaremos reformas urgentes a la Asamblea, que deben ser tratadas con responsabilidad y pensando primero en el país.

En la primera sesión de gabinete, a los ministros nominados les pedí que establezcan claramente su plan de acción en cada una de sus carteras de Estado, con metas claras y medibles.

Para muchos soy una generación distinta. Si hay algo distinto en mí es que me gusta planificar, ponerme objetivos y medir todo para ver los avances.

A todas las naciones amigas aquí presentes, gracias por su paciencia de habernos acompañado en este momento tan particular de nuestra historia. Les extendemos nuestra mano amiga sin condiciones, pero les pediremos su apoyo porque muchas de nuestras luchas son las luchas de todos.

Siempre he sido una persona de pocas palabras, pero siempre he sido un joven de acción como lo son la mayoría de las ecuatorianas y ecuatorianos, que lo único que piden es una oportunidad, la misma oportunidad que yo tuve, que ustedes me la dieron.

Aquellos que busquen atraparme en viejos esquemas fracasarán. Soy un hombre libre, libre de prejuicios y políticamente distinto para muchos. Pero así es el Ecuador: joven, libre, diverso y emprendedor.

Pocos gabinetes en la historia han sido tan diversos como este. Nunca hemos tenido la participación de tantas mujeres ni de jóvenes. Es esa rica mezcla la que representa a todo el Ecuador y es lo que el país necesita para crecer, un Ecuador que incluya a todos.

Les pido su apoyo, les pido que sumemos esfuerzos. El “anti” tiene un techo y el “pro” es infinito.

Dejemos los viejos esquemas políticos y concentrémonos en resolver los grandes problemas que aquejan al Ecuador.

Siempre fui optimista, siempre he creído en el Ecuador y juntos romperemos rígidos esquemas para adaptarnos y progresar.
Quiero agradecer de manera especial a mi esposa Lavinia, a mi madre [Annabella Azín] y a mis hijos. Ellos aún no se dan cuenta de la magnitud de mi agradecimiento por los sacrificios que deberán hacer por esta lucha, durante el resto de su vida.

Pero más allá de los malos momentos, solo les pido que recuerden que estos sacrificios son pocos comparados con los sacrificios que tienen que hacer la mayoría de las familias ecuatorianas cada día, en un país con violencia, miseria y marginación. Y que ese sacrificio sea el mayor ejemplo de sus vidas.

Muchas gracias a todos aquellos que creyeron en mí desde el primer día y también a los que no, pero tuvieron la apertura para que los pueda representar. Mi respeto y consideración a todos y cada uno de ellos.
Los invito a todos a trabajar en conjunto para acabar con el enemigo en común: la violencia y la miseria.

El éxito no es haber llegado aquí, sino que en el día que nos toque marchar, tener el respeto y el cariño de la mayoría de los ecuatorianos. Ese éxito solo va a ocurrir si nos unimos.

La tarea es dura y difícil y los días son pocos.

Manos a la obra y a trabajar.

¡Viva el Ecuador!
